Career[edit]
Jai Akash began his career with Rojavaanam. His first film in Telugu Anandam was directed by Sreenu Vaitla and produced by Ramoji Rao. He went on to work in both film industries, in turns: after acting in two Tamil films Roja Koottam and Pengal,[2] he acted in four Telugu films, before he returned to Tamil and played the lead in Inidhu Inidhu Kadhal Inidhu opposite Neha, which was a remake of Anandam also produced by Ramoji Rao. In 2004, he teamed up with Sreenu Vaitla again in Anandamanandamaye. That year, he also starred in eight Tamil films, but the films either remained unreleased or had a delayed release and went on become commercial failures and his career was dubbed "jinxed".[3][4] Furthermore during the initial stage of his career, several films were announced but discontinued including Onnum Onnum Naalu co-starring Mallika and Fair and Lovely alongside Madhumitha.[5]
In his latter career, he himself produced and directed several films he starred in, but he could not achieve commercial success.[6]His first directorial venture was Sweet Heart. He directed and acted in a film called Mr Rajesh - The Killer, where he played seven characters.
Controversy[edit]
In 2005, Jai Akash's Guru Deva released and failed at the box office. The Telugu dubbed version of the film, Guru also failed with Muppa Ankanna Rao, the executive producer of the version, failing to promote the film. Rao launched complaint to the police that Akash had hired attackers to threaten him for failing to publicize the film and subsequently Akash was arrested but later released.[7]
In 2009, Jai Akash filed a complaint to the Nadigar Sangam against actress Sunaina following allegations from her which claimed that she was not a part of the intimate scenes in the film, Madan and that Jai Akash as director had used a double.[8] Denying such reports, Jai Akash went on to claim that Sunaina was attempting to distance herself from the film.[9]
Personal life[edit]
Jai Akash was born and brought up in London. He was married to Nisha, a non-resident Indian. Following his marriage, Jai Akash was claimed to have an affair with actress Pranathi.[10]
